Hope this helps someone find the answer a lot quicker than I first did, if you ever have the issue where Outlook won't delete old profile pics. So if instead of removing the profile picture in Office 365, we had just replaced it, Outlook would replace the tmp file and keep the same filename. Of note, the filename for each is a SID that correlates with each person. Close and re-open Outlook, and the profile picture is now gone (and won't come back, since we removed it server-side in Office 365). Deleting the file will remove it from the cache. Each can be quickly opened with Paint to determine which one belongs to the above user, in our example. tmp files is a thumbnail profile picture. It is located at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\PhotoCacheĮach of those. I tried other suggestions, such as disabling cached mode, and creating a new Outlook profile, but the profile picture still shows in Outlook for that user (and emails from that user).įinally, another post relating to the same problem in Word/Excel profile pictures led me close to the solution, and then I crossed the finish line.: Outlook has a local cache of thumbnail profile pictures. OWA shows the default initials thumbnail, as does Delve, SharePoint, Teams, Admin Center, Get-UserPhoto, etc. However, even though the picture is now removed, it keeps showing up in the Outlook client. Run the powershell command Remove-UserPhoto Opens a new window Have the user go to Opens a new window, click to Change photo, then click the X to delete it (just above the browse button).Ģ. The problem: A user has their picture added to Office 365, either via Delve, their profile, or an admin from the Admin Center.
